One Piece: Different Versions, This Is Why Zeff Lost a Leg!

Sanji is one of the strongest characters and also a person who has high principles in the One Piece series. All of that was thanks to Zeff's figure. There are Two Versions

Oda Sensei himself then presented a story about how Zeff had to lose his leg. However, what is interesting is that there are two big differences in how Zeff lost his leg. In the anime version, Zeff had to lose his leg after being hit by a shipwreck due to trying to help Sanji. It forced Zeff to cut off his own leg. However, in the manga version the story is different.

In a flashback from Sanji's past, he and Zeff are shown stranded on an island. Zeff also gave Sanji his last meal as he went to another part of the island in search of a passing ship. After days, Sanji came back and saw Zeff had lost a leg. Zeff ate his own leg, because it was the only way to survive.

Then, why are there two different versions of the story of Zeff losing his leg? This was answered by Oda in the SBS column. A fan asked about the difference in the story about the loss of Zeff's leg between the manga and anime versions. He asked if it had something to do with the existence of the sensor system. And Oda also firmly confirmed that this was true.

According to Oda, children will feel scared and shocked when they have to see how someone eats their own feet. Presenting the moment on television, according to Oda, would be a big mistake. And it seems that the reason makes sense, because it is not impossible that children will feel scared and even traumatized by seeing the moment.

Zeff's life story in One Piece has always been a big lesson for Sanji. As mentioned above, Zeff is not just a chef or a mentor to Sanji. He is a substitute figure for his father who was never in Sanji's life.
