One Piece: This is How the Bounty System Works!

The bounty value is another system that the World Government created. This they deliberately do in order to maintain peace and order throughout the world. They also created this bounty value system in an effort to catch the existing criminals.

As we know, the world of One Piece is very wide with various islands and other parts of the mainland. Even though the navy has a large fleet, capturing all these fugitives will certainly be a very difficult job. For this reason, the bounty value system was created to make it easier for the World Government to carry out its duties.

Become a Potential World Government Threat in One Piece

When a pirate has gotten the attention of the navy regarding what they are doing, then their side will offer a sum of money to whoever can catch or bring the criminals or the navy to the navy. In the hunted posters that the navy distributes throughout the world there is always the words "life or death".

Indeed, what distinguishes each person or criminal is the value. But, usually, if the prey is successfully delivered alive then the person who brought the fugitive will get paid in full. It's a different case if they then bring the fugitives in a dead condition. Whoever brought the fugitive dead would only get paid around 30 percent of the bounty.

Why is that? This is because the criminals must be executed publicly by the navy, not by other parties. By displaying the execution publicly, it will increase people's sense of trust in the navy. Some people devote their lives as bounty hunters, one example is Roronoa Zoro. He briefly formed a team of bounty hunters before joining Luffy.

On the other hand, this bounty value can also be an indication of how big the threat from the criminal figure is. The greater the bounty value, the more we can conclude that the figure is very dangerous. Also, a high bounty value was an indicator of a pirate's strength, as well as their ranking in terms of strength. For example, do they include ordinary pirates, Shichibukai, Supernovas, or Yonko.

How One Gets Bounty Value

How then to determine whether someone will get a bounty value or not. To be able to get a bounty value, one has to do something evil or something big. The more someone commits a malicious or dangerous act that threatens the life of the community or the World Government, the more automatically they will get a bounty value.

In addition, their bounty value also depends on the crime they have committed. For example, the initial bounty value of Eustass Kid was the largest of the entire Worst Generation. This is because the Kid performs horrific acts such as killing people or destroying an area. This is different from some other characters, such as Monkey D. Luffy.

Luffy's bounty value is very large because of the various events he has experienced. Many times, Luffy experiences events that directly intersect with the World Government. For example defeating the Shichibukai, breaking through World Government facilities, challenging the World Government, and even fighting admirals. So, Luffy's bounty appears not because of crime but various epic events.

How Bounty Value Images Are Taken

The photo of the bounty value poster is often in the spotlight for many people. Although often the photos of the bounty value seem so ordinary, it is not uncommon for photos of the bounty value to be unique and interesting. Luffy is often featured with ridiculous photos on his hunt posters. Then, we also find out how the wanted photo from Sanji was displayed very badly because the lens was not open.

Or in the latest poster, Sanji's wanted photo actually looks ridiculous. Of course we wonder how the picture of the game value was taken? The navy hired the services of a photographer who would take photos of the criminals. The photos they take will then become the official photos on the bounty value poster.

The photographer, or commonly referred to as Attach, is often able to sneak around or disguise himself as anyone. This was based on the assumption that they were even able to take pictures of the Yonko. They also often disguise themselves as photographers who work for a fashion company, newspaper, and so on.

However, after the time-skip the navy decided to no longer use Attach's services. Even so, Attach himself then continued his career at the World Economic Journal newspaper. At this time, there is no information on who took the fugitive photo for the navy.

Weaknesses of the Bounty Value System in One Piece

Although the bounty value system is an interesting and unique system, there are weaknesses that also arise. One of the most noticeable weaknesses of the bounty value system is that there is a "error" in how someone gets the bounty value. Because it can't be measured with certainty, because everything is based on events or moments that occur, sometimes the bounty value that appears is too little or even too big.

For example, there is a character whose strength level is not too strong and does not often participate in battles, but the bounty value is much greater than a character who is more capable and stronger. For example, Usopp who has a bounty value of 200 million Belly. The value is certainly too big for the figure of Usopp who almost never fights in almost every important event.

We can compare this number with Nico Robin's bounty value, which only amounts to 130 million Belly. In fact, Robin has far more advantages, for example having the power of a devil fruit, an intelligent figure, able to read Poneglyphs, even the World Government and many parties are very eyeing Robin. We can conclude for ourselves how this system is unbalanced and unbalanced.
