One Piece: Who is Luffy's Straw Hat Heir?

The end of the One Piece series will certainly be a very big moment, especially in the manga and anime industry. Moreover, One Piece is one of the most popular series in the world. With the end of the story in the series, fans began to guess what the ending of the series would be like. There are those who guess that the ending will be happy, but there are also those who guess that the ending will be bad.

One of the speculations or theories that is quite popular is guessing who will use Luffy's straw hat next. As we know, the straw hat that Luffy has used since the beginning of the series until now is not an ordinary hat. The hat has become an icon and even a sacred object.

In the story, the straw hat was first worn by Gol D. Roger. Later, Roger bequeathed the straw hat to Shanks who was then one of his crew. And finally, the hat Shanks then passed on to Luffy. Luffy himself had promised Shanks that he would return the hat when they both became strong.

However, there is an interesting speculation that Luffy might not return the straw hat. Like Shanks and Roger, Luffy will pass his straw hat on to someone else he deems appropriate. There are several reasons why this speculation is quite plausible.

Theme inherits Determination

One of the themes that always comes up and Oda Sensei holds in the One Piece story is "inheriting determination" from one generation to another. The most obvious symbol of the concept is the straw hat that Luffy wears. This also seems to have become a pattern that Oda Sensei has built for a long time, which starts with Roger and ends in Luffy's hands.

Oda Sensei tries to show how the older generation of pirates try to make way for the younger ones. It is evident from how the Worst Generation is trying to achieve their own popularity, one way is to defeat the Yonko and maybe shift their position, as is happening right now in Onigashima.

Another example is Garp and Sengoku who resigned from their posts in order to give opportunities to the young navy. On the other hand, as noted above, inheriting this determination seems to have become a pattern. After Gol D. Roger formed his own crew, Shanks did the same.

Shanks then saw the great potential in Luffy which he then passed his hat on to Luffy. And just like the two characters above, Luffy then formed his own pirate group. This is what later became one of the reasons why Luffy was likely to pass the straw hat on to another figure.

Who is the Next Figure in One Piece?

This then becomes the big question and mystery. Who is then deemed suitable or appropriate to be the next heir to the straw hat? For now, there is still no clue about who is the right person to be the next heir to the straw hat.

However, one strong candidate who might be able to inherit the straw hat is the child of Shanks who is currently with Makino. As many fans have speculated, the baby Makino is currently having is the result of her relationship with Shanks. And there are clues about this, where one of them is the answer from Oda Sensei in one of the SBS columns that leads to the figure of Shanks.

After Luffy completes his adventure to Laugh Tale, the crew of the Straw Hats will likely disband, and they will return to their village or home. Luffy himself is likely to return to Foosha village. And that's when Luffy then saw the potential in the baby which reminded him of the figure of Shanks.

Luffy himself will probably wait until a few years, until then the figure of the child of Shanks is deemed worthy and ready to inherit his hat. In addition to giving it to Shanks' son, there is another possibility that Luffy will pass the straw hat on to another figure. It could be that the other figure is a new character that Oda deliberately created for this final story.

And the final speculation is that Luffy might "rest" the straw hat in a safe place. It could be that Luffy will keep it in Laugh Tale as a form of treasure and inheritance from a new generation. Or Luffy kept it somewhere. So, in conclusion, Luffy probably won't return the straw hat he has to Shanks. However, he will instead pass it on to someone else who he feels is worthy to have his hat. We'll just have to wait and see who will be the next heir to the hat.
