One Piece: When was the Rocks Pirates Formed?

Long before Gol D. Roger started his career as a pirate in One Piece, it turns out that in the ocean there is already a popular pirate group.  In fact, the figure became the target of the World Government and the navy.  The figure is none other than Rocks D. Xebec.  The Rocks pirate group is known as the cruelest and most vicious pirate group.

This pirate group was so terrible, stories about them were not recorded in history.  This pirate group contains great and extraordinary people like Kaido, Whitebeard, and Big Mom.  But, as Sengoku explained, there are still other Rocks pirate crews namely Captain John, Wang Zhi, Shiki, and Silver Ax.

As we know, some of these pirate crews were once the rulers of the ocean, namely Big Mom and Kaido.  And several other pirate crews turned into legendary figures in the ocean.  Unfortunately, until now, there is no information on the exact number of crew members of the Rocks pirate group.  However, it is possible that there are only tens of them.

When was the Rocks Pirates Formed

With the career of the Rocks pirate group dating back decades, even before Roger became the pirate king, the question then is when the Rocks pirate group was formed.  Had been a mystery, finally the answer to this question appeared in the booklet or databook Road To Laugh Tale Vol.  1. In the booklet there is information about when this group was formed.

Based on his information, the Rocks pirate group was formed 44 years ago on the island of Beehive, which is now the headquarters of Blackbeard.  And this was later strengthened by the appearance of flashback stories from Kaido in the previous chapters.  In the flashback, when Kaido was still in his teens and was on the island of Beehive, Rocks immediately recruited him because he knew Kaido's strength and potential.

Unfortunately, there is no other information shared in the booklet regarding the formation of the Rocks group.  This pirate group then had to disband after they were defeated by Roger and Garp in the God Valley incident that occurred 38 years ago.  That is, the age of this group of pirates is only about 6 years.

Roger's Strongest Enemy? 

In addition to information about when the Rocks pirate group was formed, which was 44 years ago, there is another interesting detail about Rocks.  According to the booklet, Rocks D. Xebec was Gol D. Roger's "strongest enemy" he had ever faced.  That is, even though Whitebeard is the most powerful human figure in the world, and Roger has fought Whitebeard, Rocks is still the strongest.

Roger and Rocks' battle in God Valley may not be the first fight they've had.  Long before, Rocks and Roger may have also fought each other in one place.  And who was then much stronger or the victor remains a mystery.  We can also conclude from this fact that Roger is not the only strongest in the ocean.

There is a figure of Rocks whose strength is far above Roger's.  How then in the God Valley incident it took Garp and Roger to then be able to defeat Rocks, might be a big clue about this.  Both know that beating the Rocks is not an easy matter.  And that's why they need to work together to beat Rocks in One Piece.
