One Piece: Is Kuzan Really Serving Blackbeard?

 

No one would have thought before that a former admiral, who became one of the pillars of naval power, finally decided to join a pirate group. This is what happened to the figure of Kuzan aka Aokiji, who decided to join Blackbeard's group after he lost the battle against Sakazuki for 10 days at Punk Hazard.

Previously, Sakazuki alias Akainu was appointed as a replacement candidate for Sengoku who decided to resign as head of the navy at headquarters. However, Kuzan rejected the plan. He then decides to fight against Sakazuki for the title. Unfortunately, Kuzan had to lose the fight.

The fight between Kuzan and Sakazuki lasted for days on Punk Hazard. As a result of the battle, the Punk Hazard area finally had to be divided into two – the hot and cold areas. Even so, Kuzan still didn't want to be under Sakazuki's control, so he decided to withdraw from the navy. And then we also get information that he decided to join Blackbeard's group.

Tricks from Kuzan?

In the theory that developed previously, Kuzan's joining with Blackbeard's group could be just a trick from Kuzan to dig deeper into information about Blackbeard. Kuzan assumed that Blackbeard probably knew a lot about what he didn't. For example, about Poneglyphs or devil fruits. According to his theory, Kuzan might be a member of the SWORD group or part of the Revolutionary Army group.

This theory is indeed quite reasonable, considering he is a figure who is not happy with absolute justice. He is one of the figures who followed in Garp's footsteps, where he was not happy with the existing system and also the World Government. However, there are other theories that have also emerged regarding Kuzan joining Blackbeard's group. What if Aokiji was actually loyal to Blackbeard and not just a disguise?

One of the arguments that support this is that Blackbeard is certainly not a figure that Kuzan can easily fool. As a figure who is always on the alert, Blackbeard will certainly watch over and suspect Kuzan at all times. And because of that, it was highly likely that Blackbeard had known in advance that Kuzan was a member of SWORD in disguise.

Want To Destroy The World Government?

Then, what exactly is Kuzan's motive or reason for joining Blackbeard? Blackbeard himself has one very clear goal, which is to become the pirate king and rule the world. He doesn't pursue freedom like Luffy does. All of these things may have something to do with the determination that Rocks D. Xebec has. As many fans have theorized, there is a possibility that Blackbeard is the heir to the will of the Rocks which was later confirmed in the booklet Road To Laugh Tale Vol. 1.

And as the heir to the will of the Rocks, of course there are many similarities between the two characters. Most importantly, his hatred of the World Government, the sky dragons, and the overthrow of Im's power. Blackbeard doesn't seem interested in destroying or confronting the navy. And this, ironically, was also in keeping with what Aokiji hated.

Being on the same side and having the same hatred, in the end made Aokiji decide to join Blackbeard. And because of this too, perhaps, in the end Aokiji was loyal to Blackbeard and not just an infiltration mission to dig up information. Of course it would be interesting if this fact is true.
