One Piece: These 5 Characters Refuse to Join the Straw Hats!

The fans of the One Piece series got a big surprise in chapter 1051 yesterday. The surprise was how Yamato decided to join the Straw Hats. This has actually been a fan speculation for a long time, where they suspect that Yamato will join Luffy. Even so, the decision itself is still in Luffy's hands.

There is still no information whether Luffy accepted Yamato to be part of his crew. Although there are many people who wish to join the Straw Hat crew, there are actually several characters throughout the series who refuse to join the Straw Hats due to their various reasons.

Gaimon

Gaimon is a former pirate who now lives on the Island of Rare Animals. In the manga version, Gaimon first appears between the Orange Town arc and the Syrupp Village arc. At that time, Luffy and Nami were the only members of the Straw Hats that Gaimon met. On the other hand, Zoro was too tired of fighting so he decided to rest and not meet Gaimon.

Meanwhile in the anime version, Gaimon first appears between the Syrup Village arc and the Baratie arc, where at that time Gaimon met Zoro and Usopp. In the story, Gaimon was once an evil and greedy figure. However, it began to disappear in Gaimon. Luffy also once offered Gaimon to join the Straw Hats, but Gaimon refused and preferred to live with the animals on the island he currently resides on.

Dr. Kureha

Dr. Kureha was a very important figure in the Drum island region. She is a doctor that people rely on to treat various problems. By the time the Straw Hats arrived at Drum Island, Luffy and Nami realized that they still didn't have a doctor in the Straw Hats crew. Finally, they also had time to ask Dr. Kureha to join which she later declined.

Dr. Kureha is the only person who supports Chopper to become a doctor. In addition, she is also the one who persuaded Chopper to later join Luffy. Kureha herself said that she didn't want to spend the rest of her time being a pirate and then dying on the ship.

Crocus

Apart from Dr. Kureha, another doctor who has also refused Luffy's offer to join the Straw Hats is Crocus. As we know, Crocus is a former member of the Roger Pirates who once sailed with the Pirate King to Laugh Tale. Crocus's time with Roger was not long, only two years. This happened because Roger asked Crocus to take care of him so he could get to Laugh Tale.

After meeting Luffy, Crocus realized that Luffy and Roger had a lot in common. Even so, Crocus had no interest in joining the Straw Hats. Crocus refused Luffy's offer to join because he wanted to take care of Laboon, a giant black whale who turned out to be an acquaintance of Brook and the Rumbar Pirates.

Nefertari Vivi and Karoo

Nefertari Vivi is an important figure who appears in the Alabasta arc. She is the daughter of Nefertari Cobra, the leader of the region. Vivi has a pet named Karoo. She had disguised herself as a Baroque Works agent before revealing her true identity. This is what then makes Luffy and the Straw Hats finally help Vivi with her mission.

Actually, Vivi and Karoo had time to sail with Luffy and the others. However, then Vivi and Karoo decided to stay in Alabasta in order to carry out their responsibilities as Princesses of the country. Despite this, Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat crew consider Vivi to remain part of the Straw Hats' group.

Iceburg

After the destruction of the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crew finally realized that they needed a carpenter or shipbuilder. Because they were in Water Seven, they finally found a shipwright to join them. The figure that Luffy then invited to join his group was Iceburg. However, Iceburg then refused Luffy's offer.

Like Vivi, Iceburg Luffy bids for reasons of responsibility. Iceburg refused the offer because he was aware of his position as the mayor of Water 7. However, in the end, it wasn't Iceburg or Galey-La's employees who joined Luffy but Franky. He is Iceburg's best friend and childhood friend. And Franky himself promised that one day he would help Iceburg realize his dream.

The popularity of the Straw Hat crew is indeed very extraordinary. Everyone wants to join their crew. In fact, there were pirates who claimed to be the Straw Hat crew. Even so, in fact there are also characters who then refuse the offer to join for a big reason. Regardless, they are still Luffy's allies.
